Loan Officer TITLE:
Loan Officer REPORTS TO:
Branch Manager PURPOSE:
Provide information on credit union products and services according to all credit union policies and procedures.
Responsible for interviewing and evaluating applicants for membership applications, loans and processing loan applications.
Gather background information and analyze loan applicants' credit history.
Approve or deny loan applications based on the analysis.
Cross-sell lending and other credit union products.
Operate with limited credit authority.
Act as a Teller in the Tunkhannock branch.
Experience:
Three to five years of similar or related experience.
EDUCATION:
A high school degree or equivalent experience.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
1.
Greet and welcome members and visitors to the credit union and answer telephones in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
2.
Enthusiastically support the credit union's focus on member sales and service.
Actively seek out sales opportunities and cross-sell opportunities and promote credit union products and services based on member needs.
Consistendtly meet or exceed sales goals to support overall credit union sales and financial goals.
3.
Open new accounts, and service existing accounts.
Set up new account files, and provide members with all necessary information for membership.
Assist members with the proper completion of payroll deduction and direct deposit cards.
Assist members in opening individual retirement accounts.
4.
Handle requests from members for transfers of shares to loan payments, share withdrawals, check requests, CD transactions, wire transfers, IRA's, foreign currency, redeem US Savings Bonds and any other requests received from members.
Research accounts for deposit, withdrawal, and loan-payment discrepancies.
Assist members in balancing a minor error with their accounts.
5.
Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing all applicants and obtaining credit bureau reports, verify debts, and estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not showing on the credit report and add them to the loan application.
6.
Assist members with the loan application process to ensure accuracy and completeness of information.
7.
Perform teller duties as needed, including processing transactions, balancing a cash drawer, balancing the vault, etc.
while following the teller procedures.
8.
Pull credit reports for all applicants, verify debts, and estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not showing on the credit report and add them to the loan application.
9.
Understand Scoring Models and Score Enhancement.
Inform members on what determines their credit score and counsel them on how to improve their score.
Cross-sell lending and other credit union products.
10.
Review the credit report for any loans at other financial institution that can be refinanced at the credit union.
11.
Determine the rate, term, and amount the member is eligible for based on their credit report and the credit union loan policy.
12.
Advise members of the benefits of all products such as debt protection and gap insurance.
13.
Approve and disburse loan proceeds to the member.
Explain all forms in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
Ensure that all necessary documentation is provided and all forms are properly signed.
14.
When a loan is denied, explain the reasons for denial in a professional, courteous manner.
Provide the member with an adverse action letter.
Provide recommendations or alternative options for possible ways to secure a loan in the future.
15.
Review online membership and loan applications and process accordingly.
16.
Maintain a filing system and procedures to monitor that the required documentation is received and maintained appropriately and according to policies and procedures.
17.
Implement new loan products and services in accordance with management direction.
18.
Check for any credit report discrepancies and inform the Retail Operations Manager.
19.
Open mail, verify the information, and process accordingly.
20.
Send thank you letters to members for funded loans.
21.
Monitor payments for late and/or delinquency status.
Follow up on delinquent, high-balance, and overdue balances by phone and/or letter.
22.
Assist delinquent members in developing plans to bring account to a current status.
23.
Pull, file, and maintain loan records.
24.
Represent and promote the credit union at external community and industry events, earning a minimum of 5 Community Involvement Points (CIP's) per year.
25.
Cross-train and backup other team members for selected critical job functions.
26.
Other duties as assigned.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
